In Bloom

Saturday 9 - Saturday 23 August 2025

Opening event Friday 2 May 4-6pm

Open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

This August, The Little Red Cottage presents In Bloom: Native Orchids Through Art and Lens, a group exhibition celebrating the beauty, mystery, and ecology of Australia’s native orchids.

Opening on Saturday 9 August 2025 at 1pm, the exhibition brings together 14 local artists responding to these remarkable plants through painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, photography, and mixed media. The exhibition continues until Saturday 23 August and invites visitors to look closely at the delicate forms, colours, and habitats of native orchids through both art and observation.

Presented in conjunction with the launch of Joan Heavey’s new Native Orchid Field Guide, In Bloom offers a timely chance to celebrate not only the visual beauty of orchids, but also the knowledge, curiosity, and care they inspire. Joan’s deep interest in native orchids has helped shape the spirit of this exhibition, connecting art, ecology, and learning in a way that feels especially at home at The Little Red Cottage.

Visitors can expect a rich mix of creative responses to native orchids, from detailed and intimate works to more interpretive pieces that reflect their fragility, resilience, and place within the natural world. Set above Forest Heart ecoNursery, the exhibition continues the gallery’s interest in bringing art and ecology into conversation.

Alongside the exhibition and book launch, an orchid identification workshop with Joan Heavey will also form part of the program, offering another way for visitors to deepen their connection with these extraordinary plants.
